I used to think curtains were enough. They’re cheap, easy to swap out, and you can find a design for every season. But after moving into a place with big front windows, I realised two things:
Curtains don’t give you much control over light.
They get dusty and messy way too fast.
That’s when I started looking at window shutters. At first I thought they were only for fancy houses, but once I saw how practical they are, I was hooked.
What surprised me most about interior shutters is how much they change the feel of a room. On a hot day I can tilt the blades just enough to block the glare but still let the breeze in. In the evening, I can close them completely and feel like my home is tucked away and private.
I went for wooden shutters in the living room because I love the natural look. The wood grain adds warmth that plain blinds just don’t have. They weren’t the cheapest option, but they feel solid—like something that’s going to last for years.
The best part? They’re easier to clean than curtains. A quick wipe and they’re done. No more dragging fabric down to the dry cleaner.
If you’re on the fence, I’d say try shutters in one room first. Once you get used to the look (and the peace of mind of not worrying about dust or broken cords), you’ll probably want them everywhere.
